It was natural to turn to horses as a subject; I never stop learning from the two horses in my life. I know I love
them but they don’t love me - what am I to them? Despite this open sentimentality my work is a rigorous enquiry.
I am researching movement and have been working from the horse because they are such a huge and necessary part of my
life. I spent nearly a decade working with dancers, an art form I admire greatly but my experience of dance is that of the
spectator.
I
push myself in my art practice. I am searching in the act of drawing and painting. I hope my work asks questions, not about
equestrian art but about what it means to be a human in daily contact with this extraordinary animal.
