The presence
of horses has defined my life.
They fuelled my
childhood flights of imagination, and provided fire and power in the hot blood of competition on the racecourse. Their absence, during my years of urban living, brought into focus my separation from the land and made me aware
of that rupture.
In recent years,
they have returned to my life, and I have become aware how much they, with their innate generosity, can teach me. Their imperative
to be truthful and alive in the moment, coupled with the ability to read our intentions with total clarity - whether we
are aware of them or not - ensures that they provide
us with an untarnished mirror in which to see ourselves. Uncomfortable as this is, when we are ready it inevitably begins
to ‘lead us to the spiritual.’
I have
found that horses can fulfil many needs for human beings. I hope that I can do them justice as a student, friend and artist.
